If you’re someone who is passionate about supporting patients and their loved ones during their time of need, consider becoming a hospice volunteer at Generations Health Care, Inc. Our volunteers have the opportunity to have a large impact on the lives of patients during one of their most difficult periods in life. It’s not just our patients who you’ll assist, but also the Generations care staff.
There are so many benefits to volunteering at a hospice.
One of the greatest benefits of being a hospice volunteer is the opportunity for self-improvement. Helping others can be a great way to boost your sense of purpose in life and build confidence in yourself. Volunteering can also help you develop empathy, compassion, greater emotional resilience, and maturity.
Volunteering at Generations is a great way to make connections with patients, family members, and the staff. Expand your network with like-minded people and build new relationships that may come in handy later in life.
Volunteering in hospice care offers a great opportunity to learn new skills through training and day-to-day tasks. This offers a level of confidence in your abilities and will take you far in life.
While you do not need any qualifications as the hospice will train you, successful volunteers will have the following qualities and traits that will help them during their service:
Trying to describe what a hospice volunteer does each day is difficult, as no two days are the same. On some days, you may find yourself offering comfort and companionship to patients by taking walks and watching TV together. On other days, you’ll be helping out with arts and crafts or providing grief support by lending a listening ear.
Our hospice volunteers will also assist in our administrative office with data entry, filing paperwork, and answering phones. Volunteers are always encouraged to help with marketing efforts and fundraising events.
You can see how vital volunteers are for the Generations team!
